Prevailing Prayer

Reading Lesson:        Jas. 5:16 "The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much."

As we approach the time for our revival effort meeting, hopefully we have all been spending extra time in prayer on its behalf. This week's lesson deals with the kind of prayer that produces results, and is based in part on the writings of Eld. Charles G. Finney, Revival Lectures.

"Effectual, prevailing prayer attains the blessing that it seeks. It is that prayer which effectually moves God." It involves the following attributes:

1.   Praying after having renounced all sin. (Ps. 66:18)

2.   Praying for a definite and specific object, rather than in generalities.

3.   Praying in accordance with, and in acceptance of, God's will as revealed ro His Word, His Providence or His Spirit. (II Sam. 12:15-23)

4.     Praying with a desire that equals the blessing sought. (Gen. 32:26)

5.    Praying with the right motive. (Ja. 4:3)

6.    Praying by the intercession of the Spirit. (Rom. 8:26-27) -

7.    Praying with perseverance. (Is. 66:8)

8.    Praying a lot. (I Th. 5:17)

9.    Praying in the name of Jesus.

10.  Praying in faith. (ML 11:24)
